  The Oberstdorf Ice rink opened its doors for the first time 29th December 1958. In the beginning it was an open air ice rink, but within a year after opening they started building a roof over it.  
       
  As preparation for the Olympic Games of Squaw Valley many top figure skaters came to Oberstdorf . In the following years many more figure skaters came to train under almost perfect circumstances and the Ice rink of Oberstdorf became the top sport centre of the world in Figure skating.  
       
  In the period 1977 to 1981 two extra Ice rinks were build together with the main rink under one roof. Also the sporthostel was build with accomodation for athletes to overstay in the hostel.  
       
  In december 1981 the World Junior Championships Figure skating were held in Oberstdorf with a return of the Championships in 2000 and 2007.  
       
  The international history of shorttrack in Oberstdorf started with the organisation of the Europa Cup in 1996. Shorttrack has embraced the wonderfull facilities in Oberstdorf and since then many competition and shorttrack activities have taken place there.
